A dog behavior consultation can provide essential, pin-pointed information about behavior problems and their solutions,
or any information you want about your dog's behaviors. It can even be of great help to aid you in selecting, raising, and training a dog to be sure you do things
right from the start.
The earlier you address a problem, the easier it usually is to remedy the problem and replace it with the kind of behavior you want.
We at The Balanced Dog are happy to help you with both mini consultations and full service consultations, both in person (preferred) or
by phone. Simply call our main number to set up an appointment and find out what information you will need about your dog you should be ready to talk about so we can provide
the most efficient and accurate assessment.
A behavior consultation for behavior problem solutions is an exchange of information consisting of
- a reporting of the behavior issues of the dog(s) and a general profile of people and/or other animals involved, starting with the most recent incident and working backwards
- a gathering of facts about the background, lifestyle and present status of the dog. For a general idea of what we will be considering in our analysis, you will find some general guidelines in our chart.
- an assessment of likely underlying causes or reasons for the problems
- a suggestion for a course of action anticipated to either find out more information necessary to a diagnosis and/or to begin to alleviate or "cure" the problem(s)
- sometimes we may ask you to schedule a follow up to assure progress or suggest changes of treatment protocols or training procedures
Most often, a consultation needs to be followed by a course of action more or less dependent on the ongoing involvement of the consultant and /or trainer able to follow
through with appropriate protocols. Occasionally, a knowledgeable owner can follow through on their own with the help of some recommended resources or literature.
Consultations can be done by phone, a combination of phone and video, or, most accurately, in person.
In those cases where we do long distance consultations, we may be able to help you look for a local, hands-on person to guide you through
the process of changing your dog's behavior. If that is not possible, we will work with you ourselves if we feel it is ethical and effective to do so.
The cost of a phone consultation is $20.00 per 15 minute segment or part thereof. A minimum deposit of $40.00 is required to set an appointment for a phone consultation,
which can be mailed or paid via our PayPal service on this site. We are happy to make the phone call if your long distance service is not free.
High gas prices, long distances and increasing traffic congestion have forced us to add a travel surcharge when you are more than 30 miles round trip away from our home office. The surcharge is currently $0.75 per mile on a round trip basis for any additional miles over the 30 miles round trip included with the base price. You can also use PayPal to prepay your consultation.
Some consultations require only one visit. Others require multiple visits to work through training or behavior mofification protocols. To reward our clients for making a commitment to sticking with a program for change for their dog, we offer some package discounts from 7% to 10%. Ask how you can qualify.
